Regarding the Voices

The eleven earlier essays posted under the Voices of Light category can be seen as a book-length sampling of Quaker theological thought from the movement’s origins up to the devastating separations in the early 19th century.

Although the essays were serialized in reverse historical order, roughly moving backward through time, now that they appear in full, they can be read in the other direction — from the earliest thinkers onward. Either way, it’s a remarkable sampling.

I hope this collection and my reflections encourage you to seek out more of their writings, as well as those of many other remarkable early Friends, male and female. Despite their seemingly quaint language, they have much to say to our own challenging times. Walk in the Light, then, cheerfully.
