We want logical reasons for including or excluding this food or that from a religious diet. Is it a matter of health, after all? Or the local ecology?
I suspect the mere act of saying I can’t eat this or won’t eat that – the imposition of a limit and the ability to say “no” – is the ultimate purpose.
We grew up without alcoholic beverages but had pork, which is hardly scriptural.
